CAF's commuter trains are designed to offer fast, safe, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly transportation capable of carrying large numbers of passengers.

At CAF, we understand that every client has unique needs, which is why our interior design solutions can be customised. We offer a variety of seating configurations, cars with café areas or vending machines, different numbers of restrooms, and spaces adapted for luggage and bicycles, which ensure exceptional service and use the latest innovations in safety and comfort.

The low-floor Civity train family, based on the successful Civia model, provides great design flexibility. Configurations can be tailored to each client's specific requirements, enabling flexible solutions for a better-connected, more environmentally friendly world.

Civity

Civity trains are designed for regional and commuter services that adapt to each client's individual needs. Configurations can be modified by adding or excluding intermediate cars.

Civity trains' interoperability facilitates clients’ international operations, and their cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art reliability comply with stringent EN standards.

Low-floor train

The low-floor design allows easy access from any platform. The main equipment is located on the roof, allowing the low-floor area to extend throughout the majority of the train. The floor height can be 600mm or 800mm, although this height can be customised according to client specifications.

Civity XL

Equipped with expanded modules for greater passenger capacity, the Civity XL optimises energy consumption per user, achieving high levels of efficiency.

Civity BEMU

Battery-powered to operate on non-electrified tracks, it is capable of recharging its batteries while running under the catenary.

Civity DUO

Our double-decker train is equipped with seating on both levels, with 2+2 or 2+3 seating configurations to increase passenger capacity and lower operating costs per traveller. Spacious seats and enhanced external visibility maximise passenger comfort.

Civity NORDIC

Designed to withstand extreme weather conditions from -40ºC to +40ºC.

Civity UK

Adapted to specific requirements of the UK and its regulations, including gauge, floor height, low variable usage load (VUC), ARIN bogies, and signalling and safety systems, Civity UK ensures maximum comfort for users.

Flexibility and onboard comfort

Civity is the perfect solution for clients who need high-capacity passenger fleets.

Modular designIt allows operators to adapt train configurations quickly and easily by adding between 2 and 10 intermediate cars.

Flexible configurationThey can be equipped with various features to meet required service needs: the number of doors, for example, can be configured to allow quick and easy boarding and alighting for passengers, including those with reduced mobility.

Class typesCivity trains can have standard and comfort class cars, or cars with both, separated by sliding doors.

Multi-purpose areaThe central module of the Civity can be equipped as a multi-purpose area, including a café/vending machines, children's play areas, sports equipment modules (racks for bicycles or skis), standard or adapted restrooms, wheelchair areas, seating or standing spaces and information points.

Battery and hydrogen solutions

CAF focuses on developing sustainable alternatives to diesel trains to eliminate emissions on non-electrified routes, with battery and hydrogen trains as emission-free options. Civity units with BEMU (Battery Electric Multiple Unit) technology allow operation on non-electrified lines, avoiding fossil fuel and gas emissions.

We also offer other variants of hybrid (pantograph and battery) and bimodal (catenary and hydrogen) trains, which eliminate emissions, reduce high electrification costs, and provide greater comfort because they are quieter.

The Civity train family is our response to the challenge of creating sustainable and environmentally friendly public transport systems.

Civity is manufactured with materials specifically selected for functionality, technical requirements, and ease of disassembly and recycling at the end of a vehicle’s life.

Civity's standardised modular solutions ensure the high reliability and durability of its components, reducing maintenance costs and material consumption. Vibrations and noise emissions are minimised to avoid harmful impacts on the ecosystem, and its CO2 emissions meet the latest environmental standards.

Health and Safety

Passenger health and safety are fundamental in the design of Civity trains. CAF has rigorous certification processes that meet mandatory standards and enable swift commissioning.
