The transport operator AMT Genova (Azienda Mobilità e Trasporti SpA) has awarded Solaris an all-time record order to supply a total of 112 18-metre trolleybuses. The contract is worth in excess of €100 million.
This is the single largest order for articulated trolleybuses to date for Solaris. In this case, the vehicle, aside from its traditional electric drive, will also be equipped with batteries, giving it more autonomy and allowing it to cover long distances without the need to be connected to the network. It should be pointed out that the batteries will be charged whilst the unit is in service, supplied by the catenary by means of In-Motion-Charging (IMC) technology.
Solaris' extensive experience in developing and manufacturing this type of vehicle, having already supplied more than 2,000 trolleybuses, was one of the key factors that the operator ATM Genova took into account.
The city of Genoa is currently implementing a number of projects to improve its public transport infrastructure and services. This is further evidenced by this most recent contract, as well as the investment this historic northern Italian city is making to construct a new trolleybus line. These initiatives form part of the Italian operator's ambitious plan to achieve a fully electric vehicle fleet by 2025.
Solaris' business relationship with the operator AMT Genova dates back to 2013, the most recent example being the most recent order for 30 electric buses, which were delivered in 2022 and are currently in operation.
Solaris secures new hydrogen bus contract in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Solaris will also supply 10 hydrogen buses to another European city. In this case, the German company Rheinbahn Düsseldorf has ordered the vehicles, which are scheduled for delivery in 2025.
This contract is for the Solaris Urbino 12 model, and will include the state-of-the-art technology for this type of vehicle, equipped with a wide range of systems that meet GSR2 requirements, providing the highest levels of safety for both passengers and drivers. It should also be noted that these buses will run on green hydrogen, which is produced purely from renewable electricity.
The hydrogen-powered Solaris buses have proved to be a great success on the German market, as proven by the current high order backlog. Proof of this are the numerous contracts that have been secured in recent months with cities such as Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Duisburg and Gross Gerau, to name but a few.
